If you are keen to fine tune your skills in the amazing world of silversmithing, then look no further than this incredible course!

This workshop is designed for those already with some skills and want to further your knowledge and capabilities. We guarantee that with our help, you will be sure to have the core techniques perfected and how to advance your creations into individual masterpieces.

The classes can focus on learning new skills in:

  • Stone Setting (cabochons or facetted stones).
  • Forging (making a bangle or cuff).
  • Spinner rings.
  • Stacker rings.
  • Pendants.
  • Earrings.
  • Chain making.
  • Fusing.
  • Decorative Features.
The class can be catered to what you want to learn.
There are also beginner courses available that will teach you all the core techniques and is a great way to start a silversmithing hobby.

Participants will be encouraged to create a ring or pendant from a single piece of metal, a treasure you will be able to take home and enjoy for years to come.

On site, we can provide a basic design outline for your masterpiece - however you are more than welcome to develop your own unique design from the techniques learnt. Creating jewellery is a timeless art form. A common theme in art history, it spans all cultures and continents and was a foundation practice of many master artists.

Please note that with this course everything is provided except the silver, this can be purchased at an additional cost or you are more than welcome to provide your own.

When you handcraft jewellery from precious metals and stone they become pieces of art - something highly personal and priceless - the perfect lifelong gift for a partner, loved one or friend. As the artist you put your own personality into the piece and take it to a level beyond mundane mass produced items.

The practice of silversmithing is enjoyable, creative, tactile and meditative. The skills required are not intuitive but can be easily learned with proper instruction and equipment. Sunshine Coast's very own Nick Murray will teach you the skills needed to create a stunning finished piece.

There are two Half Day Intermediate workshop time sessions available running on certain days - either 9am - 12pm or 1pm - 4pm. There are also full day workshops available. If the dates and times available do not suit you, please contact us and we can try arrange a suitable time for both of us.

This class is aimed at those with some skills already and want to further advance or learn specific techniques. There are other options available for beginners.

About your guide

Nick Murray SilverSmith
Hey, I'm Nick Murray SilverSmith
Originally from England, Nick was enticed to move to Australia many years ago by its warm sun. Nick has spent over 40 years working in the Northern Territory and Northwest Queensland regions on large pastoral leases running cattle.

Out here working on the land Nick developed his silver smithing skills. Nick taps into his instinctive store of images, folk lore and emotion to capture the stark beauty and heritage of the Australian outback. Dramatic contrasts, subtle surfaces and exotic patterns are utilised to create the unique expressions of his visions in his wearable art. His pieces aim to evoke a feeling of empathy and a sense of belonging to the observer and owner.

Nick's innovative designs are influenced by his 40 years in the Outback. His work has been profiled in exhibitions throughout Queensland and NSW and purchased by galleries and private collectors, both in Australia and overseas.

Nick selects unique gemstones from around the world - pieces that intrigue him by their individuality and provide inspiration for his remarkable designs. Nick cuts and styles his own stones.
