What we will do
The cost of the class does not include the Silver. Silver can be purchased from me or you are welcome to bring your own silver.
These Techniques include;

- Drilling.
- Filing.
- Sanding.
- Polishing.
- Basic stone setting.
- Shape and forge a piece of metal.
- Techniques to pierce metal
- How to make a ring to size
- How to use a jewelers saw frame
- How to use a jewelers saw and change blades
- How to work on a jewelers bench pin
- Using jewelers' files
- Forging metal (how to manipulate metal with a hammer and textured stamps).
- Soldering
- Creating a polished finish
- Basic Claw and Bezel Setting of gem stones
Participants will be encouraged to create a ring or pendant from a single piece of metal, a treasure you will be able to take home and enjoy for years to come.

About your guide
Out here working on the land Nick developed his silver smithing skills. Nick taps into his instinctive store of images, folk lore and emotion to capture the stark beauty and heritage of the Australian outback. Dramatic contrasts, subtle surfaces and exotic patterns are utilised to create the unique expressions of his visions in his wearable art. His pieces aim to evoke a feeling of empathy and a sense of belonging to the observer and owner.
Nick's innovative designs are influenced by his 40 years in the Outback. His work has been profiled in exhibitions throughout Queensland and NSW and purchased by galleries and private collectors, both in Australia and overseas.
Nick selects unique gemstones from around the world - pieces that intrigue him by their individuality and provide inspiration for his remarkable designs. Nick cuts and styles his own stones.

The beginners silversmithing jewellery making workshop was brilliant! Nick provides a calm and entertaining space to teach his craft. His teaching style is conducive to learning with first being shown the ropes then being able to get hands on with using the equipment and skills to craft jewellery all the while, Nick is engaging in a fun manner with plenty of laughs along the way. What a wonderful day this was! I booked the beginners day course after a hiatus of about 25 years in silversmithing and was amazed by Nick's skill and talent. He is a patient and extremely knowledgeable teacher and is absolutely hilarious. Best Day at Buderim with Nick, I did the full day beginners workshop and I made a ring and 2 pairs of earrings. Nick was a great teacher and we learnt so much about silversmithing. It was great to be able to decide what styles we wanted to make and suit the workshop to our own style. A very enjoyable and informative day. I came away with new skills to practise and three lovely rings. Nick was very easy to work with and learn from. I will definitely go again.
